Know something plumbers need to hear?

This blog is read by people who run plumbing businesses: owners, one-van operators, and the person in the office who answers the phone. If you know something that would make their week easier, I would like to publish it. Pitch me the idea first, not the finished article.

What I publish

Anything that helps a plumber run the business better.

The marketing posts I mostly write myself. Where guest writers earn their place is everything around it, the parts of running a plumbing business I do not do every day.

  1. Quoting, pricing and getting paid

How to price jobs so the profitable ones stay profitable, chasing invoices without losing the customer, deposits, payment terms and cash flow when a big job runs long.

  2. Admin, software and systems

Job management, scheduling, quoting tools, call handling and anything else that gives a plumber their evenings back. Specific beats general: show the workflow, not the feature list.

  3. Hiring, apprentices and growing a team

Taking on the first employee, keeping good people, apprenticeships, subcontractors and what changes when you stop being the only van.

  4. Customers, reviews and reputation

Handling complaints, keeping customers coming back, warranties, aftercare and the conversations that decide whether somebody recommends you.

  5. Running the business safely and legally

Insurance, compliance, health and safety and certification, written for a business owner rather than a lawyer. Say which country you are writing about, because the rules differ.

The rules

Your post has to be original and not published anywhere else, before or after. Somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 words is about right, written in plain English for somebody who runs a plumbing business, not for other marketers.

You get a short bio and a link to your site. One more link in the body is fine when it genuinely helps the reader, and I decide whether it does. Every post is edited, sometimes heavily, and I will send you the edited version before it goes live.

If your company sells to plumbers, that is fine and often makes for the most useful posts, but the article cannot be a sales page. Commercial posts are labelled as sponsored and the links are marked to match. I will talk you through that when I reply to your pitch.

What I turn down

Posts from other marketing agencies or SEO services. Anything that is not about plumbing or running a trade business. Articles written by an AI and handed over unedited, rewritten versions of something already online, and anything whose real purpose is the link rather than the reader. Gambling, crypto, loans and anything of that sort, whatever the angle.

How it works

Send the pitch. If it fits, I will reply with any changes to the angle and a date to aim for. You write the draft, I edit it, you approve the edit, and it goes into the publishing schedule. Most posts go live within a few weeks of the final draft.

Before you pitch

Read a couple of posts first to get a feel for the tone. Short sentences, specific advice, no fluff.
